Immigration

Immigration To America

In the early 1800s, economic and social modernizations were starting to develop. America started to promote capital investment in industries, which resulted in the prospering of clerks and bureaucrats in the cities. Also, a growing demand of cheap labor in factories and in the building of canals and railroad lines started. This attracted many immigrants who were eager to work so that they could start a new life in America. They left their home country in hope that they could avoid possible  poverty and oppression from their home countries. From the 1820s to the 1830s, the amount of immigrants who immigrated to America went from about 143,000 immigrants to about 600,000. As the years went on, the number of immigrants continued to rapidly increase. These immigrants mostly settled in the North and the West because the South offered less job opportunities. Most of these immigrants came from Ireland and Germany.
